Peter Freeman, Inc. is pleased to participate in the second annual Paris+ par Art Basel fair with a presentation that reflects the gallery programming, juxtaposing historically significant pieces in dialogue with newer works by gallery artists.
A diverse range of form, material, and display techniques are represented, in the sculptures of David Adamo, Fernanda Gomes, Charles LeDray, Lucy Skaer, Thomas Schütte, Richard Wentworth, and Franz West; as well as recent paintings, drawings, and photography by Dove Allouche, Silvia Bächli, and Ernst Caramelle.
Important historic works, including Richard Serra’s paintstick drawing Pasolini (1986), Alexander Calder’s 1938 steel wire Portrait of Mr. Uhlan, a graphite meander by Julije Knifer, and a striking black-and-white painting by Robert Moskowitz together emphasize a dynamic use of line and bold graphic formalism. A selection of eleven works on paper by Mel Bochner, spanning his decades of artmaking, provides an abridged overview of his dedicated engagement with language, definition, and measurement; while mixed media works from the 1980s by the late Robert Filliou show evidence of the French artist’s playfully peripatetic nature.
Harry’s Nipple, an arresting close-up painted by Catherine Murphy, when paired with the early 20th century sculptor Medardo Rosso’s cast bronze Enfant au sein, offers a nod to Paris’s long and storied impact on revolutions in painting and sculpture, and in turn, the gallery’s deep ties with the city.
